Yasmine Goes On TONIGHT SHOW To Claim She's the Source of Improved NB Ratings (November 21, 1998)
In an appearance on Thursday's TONIGHT SHOW of November 19, Yasmine Bleeth tried to clarify statements she made in a DETOUR magazine issue focusing on the topic of sex. She made outrageous answers for the contrived DETOUR interview, which appeared on the Internet and to which Jay Leno queried Yasmine about.
Yasmine said she did indeed say she fantasized about a three way between Elvis and Cindy Crawford. Leno actually shamelessly said "People want to know this." Only those brain dead would take this over-the-top answer seriously or even as a pseudo-rumor. It's stuff like this that continues to make the Internet to be viewed as a fringe source of "information."
Leno then asked Yasmine if she wanted to make a video like Pamela Lee, to which comedian Dana Carvey (the previous guest before Yasmine) interjected "Are you asking her if she's ever videotaped herself having sex?" Ever the show biz huckster Leno quipped "Yes, I was asking her that." Yasmine answered no, but revealed she was offered $750,000 to make such a videotape.
Of NASH BRIDGES, Leno noted of Don Johnson "He's in, like, every shot...he has a lot of close-ups...We need to see more of you." To which Yasmine replied "I think so...Don, did you hear that? I'm the money, baby." Dana Carvey once again injected "You know about Don Johnson..." and made a hand gesture (the same hand gesture he made when doing a bit on the Ken Starr testimony that day, indicating he thought Starr was crazy).
Thank God Dana Carvey was there to offer some levity to this contrived public relations appearance by the ambitious Yasmine Bleeth. She's going to need more than sex talk to goose up the November ratings for NASH BRIDGES. You might need to appear in a swimsuit, Yasmine. (Yasmine was curvaceous and lovely in a snug gray sweater she wore for Leno).
An Extra And His Walk-On Part in "Firestorm" (November 21, 1998)
William, with the initials WDF, told us about his walk-on part in the episode "Firestorm." He walked through the scene as Mr. Fortner, a citizen who has filed a complaint against Evan Cortez. Caitlin has just taken his statement. William had no dialogue, but his character says "Whatever," as he departs from the SIU office. The line, or word, sounds like it was put in later (and may not even be his voice) because it shows his back (not his lips moving) as he exits.
I got to do a scene with both Yasmine
Bleeth and Don Johnson, playing a character named Mr. Fortner.Cheech was
there as was "Angel". My scene took place in the new police station
(barge), you would be suprised at the detail on the set. It is supposed
to be an old tuna packing plant and there are warning signs all around
the conveyor belts and walls, hard to see on T.V. but they're there.
Yasmine was sweet, but Don seemed a little distanced, but I did get a
big smile and nod from Cheech. I had a great time.
Thanks William for sharing your experience – good luck getting more parts.
Yasmine Bleeth Added to NASH Open (November 19, 1998)
Yasmine was finally added to a modified NASH open, along with the rest of the permanent cast. She is no longer listed as a "Special Guest Star."
This occurs in the eighth episode of this season, after Yasmine replaced Kelly Hu, who was killed off in the third episode of this season.
HOMICIDE In A Death Duel with NASH BRIDGES (November 7, 1998)
TV Guide's News and Gossip took note of the HOMICIDE versus NASH BRIDGES ratings battle for the 10PM Friday night time slot. TV Guide reports that in the summer of 97, NBC gave HOMICIDE the ultimatum to "become more popular than NASH BRIDGES or be canceled." This is in the wake of a PBS documentary on the making of an episode of HOMICIDE last season, which is now airing on PBS affiliates.
Don Johnson owned the Friday night slot with MIAMI VICE and we predict he will again with NASH BRIDGES. For more, see TV Guide's "Daily Dish" at:
More on Big NASH Bash for New HQ Set (November 7, 1998)
The local TV show EVENING MAGAZINE (which highlights Bay Area events) did an elaborate piece on the NASH BRIDGES party celebrating the new SIU headquarters set located at Pier 30. The EVENING MAGAZINE show on the NB production aired on Wednesday, November 4th on the local CBS affiliate station KPIX here in San Francisco.
There was a ribbon-cutting ceremony with SF Mayor Willie Brown holding a giant pair of scissors to cut the ribbon to the entrance of the barge upon which the set is built. Don Johnson danced with His Honor amidst a fireworks display. Don's fiancée Kelley Phleger was a constant companion at Don's side. Jodi Lyn O'Keefe was also shown hugging Don.
Cheech Marin was surrounded by several beautiful, tall women. Cheech said of the new set: "It's beautiful, in an artistic sense. And it's so functional that we can just do a whole bunch of things that can make the show look even better than it does." Don followed and commented of the set: "It's got a nice feel to it."
New cast member Yasmine Bleeth then did a christening of the vessel with the traditional smashing of champagne bottle declaring the barge's name the NB 222. Her first swing failed to smash the bottle (to which an intervening Don said "Take Two.") The second swing smashed the bottle and Yasmine got champagne all over her lovely black dress.
Yasmine professed an admiration for the Don: "I hadn't heard anything really about him. I mean, honestly I didn't. So I came in, I think, with a good open mind."
Jodi Lyn O'Keefe (who plays Cassidy) gave a tour of the barge. Jodi led cameras topside to the upper deck with its spectacular view of the Bay Bridge. Yasmine said of the see-through grating of stairs and upper floor: "They said they built the grating so they could look up the girls' skirt. I swear to God – that's what they said." To which a sly Don responded: "That is not true. (With a roll of the eyes) It just turned out that way."
Yasmine also revealed that she was having trouble finding an apartment in San Francisco.
