"Bear Trap" Episode Offends Some Canadians
Hi Gordon. My name is Linda and I AM CANADIAN. I am a faithful watcher
of Nash Bridges every Friday night at 8 a.m. in Edmonton, Alberta
Canada. On January 12th I watched the show which was about an RCMP
officer who was working with Nash Bridges. Gordon, I just wanted to let
you know that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is something that
Canadians are very proud of. It is the small piece of the Canadian
culture that is left. I was quite disappointed at your portrayal of the
RCMP. I just want you to know Gordon, we all don't say eh? after every
sentence. It seemed a bit exaggerated on the show. Your portral of the
RCMP supervisor (who looked rather stupid compared to Nash and his team)
said nothing but eh? I noticed too that everytime the supervisor was in
the show, he was in a vehicle and it was pouring rain. I know Vancouver
is a bit wet but a sunny day in the Rockies is second to none.
I couldn't let my thoughts on this pass. I'm still a faithful watcher
and still love your show, but you didn't do justice in portraying the
Royal Canadian Mounted Police or Canadians.
Have a great day! (please note: no eh?) Linda S.
Gordon's Response
Linda, please distinguish from the fact that we just do a web site on the show, but we are not responsible for its content. You mention "your show", but it is not my show. We are not affiliated with NASH BRIDGES nor do we influence its content. We are really like you, just avid watchers of the show.
Yes, I was very disappointed at the way Canadians were portrayed, not just because of the fictional aspects, but that watchers will gain an impression that this is the ways Canadians really are - all in the guise of story-telling.
More Fury on "Bear Trap"
I was totally disgusted with this show. Having lived in Canada for the past 44 years I have never heard one person talking the way they depicted the Mountie on that show. Are they to stupid to know what goes on in the world around them. If this was a comedy I would have found it funny but since it's not I thought it showed how truly stupid they really are. Faulty German Translation?
hi all,
and greetings from germany.i have only one question:
nash named some of his clients "ba ba".
what meens that? thank you for answering me.
i wish you a nice time. Adam Z.
Gordon's Response
Adam, I don't know if there is a German word for "Bubba," because I think that is what you are referring too. In the dub over in German, maybe "ba ba" was substituted in. We heard from Italian fans saying that their TV version "bimbo" was substituted for "Bubba." Now, "bimbo" is not what you would like to say, especially to your girlfriend.
