NB Production Blows Up Mercedes (February 13, 1998)
At a vacant lot at the intersection Jackson and Kearny streets in San
Francisco, the NB crew blew up a Mercedes-Benz on February 11. The car blew
apart in a fire ball, apparently a little more ferociously than anticipated.
A mangled car door ended up on the sidewalk near spectators, but no one was
injured.
Pictures of the explosion made the local news here, oddly enough on the
rival ABC affiliate KGO here. They jokingly quipped "Now that you've seen it
here, there's no reason to watch it on that other channel."
Don Looks Presidential as He Refuses to Comment on His Private Life in ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT Report. (February 13, 1998)
Don appeared in a profile piece on ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT of February 11. The
ET piece was what ET does best - lots of archival footage from Don's past and
present:
Shots of Don on the sets of MIAMI VICE and NASH BRIDGES;
Shots of Don with his three children;
Shots of Don with his women - ex-wife Melanie Griffith, Barbara
Streisand, and Jodi Lyn O'Keefe.
Interspersed was a mini-interview with Don emphasizing his responsibilities
as executive producer of NASH BRIDGES, and his role as father to his
children.
The ET piece also delved into the PEOPLE magazine article about Don and his
involvement with his 19 year old co-star Jodi Lyn O'Keefe with ET asking:
ET:
People always want to know - is Don dating his co-star?
Don:
Well, I don't discuss that stuff, you know. And they're just
going to have to wonder. And it's healthy to wonder. It's a good thing to
wonder about things.
ET:
PEOPLE magazine says that you guys are living together?
Don:
No. I'm not discussing this. I don't have problems with people
asking questions just as long as they don't have problems with me not
answering them. Ha ha hah.
The ET piece ended with the news that NASH BRIDGES will return in March, having been totally pre-empted during the February sweeps by the Winter Olympics.
Don on Blooper's 98 (February 8, 1998)
In that scintillating Dick Clark production of rehash TV - BLOOPERS '98
(airing February 7), a very, very young Don Johnson appears on THE DATING
GAME as Bachelor No. 1. Don describes himself immodestly as handsome and
attractive to the inquiring bachelorette. The young Don looks very mod and
sixties-ish, fresh-faced and teen-like. Alas, she chooses Bachelor No. 3 -
guess that Don Johnson magic wasn't so finely tuned in those days.
NASH Pre-empted by Winter Olympics in February
(February 2, 1998)
No NASH for the next two weeks to make way for the Winter Olympics held in
Nagano, Japan. Domo arrigato, Don.
